Hi my name is Elana and I’m addicted to skincare. I love The Ordinary and yes, I’m talking about them again. Sorry not sorry. They’re a super affordable brand but make products that genuinely work and drastically improve my skin. What more could you want? Here’s a review of some of my new additions.
AHA 30% + BHA 3% Peeling Solution
At first impressions, this product is genuinely terrifying for a number of reasons. First of all, you have to be careful because this stuff is powerful and highly concentrated. The instructions say to leave on for 10 minutes and you do not want to exceed that. No really. Set a timer. Everything it needs to do will be done within ten minutes. Secondly, it’s red. Blood red. And applying it is like smearing some blood on your face. But don’t worry it’s not actually blood. It tingles a little but that’s okay because that means it’s working. However, if you have super sensitive skin, experience any discomfort or it starts to burn I’d say that you should defintely wash it off as soon as possible.
After ten minutes I wash it off with cold water and a cloth. My skin looks instantly brighter and less congested. Texture is one of my biggest skin concerns and this genuinely helps to exfoliate the skin. Over the next few days I notice not only my skin looking less dull – it also looks a lot smoother and clearer. When I’ve tested this, I noticed some peeling – especially on my nose – but nothing drastic happened so there’s nothing to fear despite the title.
I’ve used this a few times now and it’s a solid yes from me. A future lifesaver for when my skin starts freaking out. I make sure to wear SPF everyday anyway but it’s super important to do that with these products. They increase the sun’s sensitivity to your skin and that can be potentially damaging. And I wouldn’t use it more than once a week if that – just because it’s a strong product. But I get so excited planning the next time I can use this so that shows how much I love it.
Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone
Okay, so the word silicone has a bad reputation and I hope anyone who tries this product will realise that it’s genuinely nothing too be afraid of. Don’t panic, this product doesn’t clog my pores. It tingles a little on application but is not at all uncomfortable to use. I currently use it in the morning before my moisturiser and heavier creams (P.S. does anyone want a current skincare routine). I love the results I’m seeing from using it.
The ascorbic acid/vitamin C is the key ingredient here. In short, it boosts sun protection, increases collagen production, fades pigmentation and dark sports all whilst leaving you with a healthy glow. I’ve been trying this for around a month now and it has dramatically improved my skin. I’ve been seeing less scarring from my breakouts and improvement in the scarring I already have. My skin looks smoother, clearer and brighter. A weird texture but definitely a new favourite.
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
I’ve been using this for what seems like forever. A liquid exfoliant/AHA which is perfect for gently resurfacing the skin. The use of aloe vera helps soothe the skin too. Overtime it definitely improves radiance. The texture of my skin is again so much better since I’ve been using this. Spots fade more quickly and heal better.
Again, try to refrain from overuse with this one. It’s a daily staple sure, but I wouldn’t use it more than once a day. It may sting a little when used but that fades with continual use. It’s pretty strong stuff and can do more damage than good if applied too regularly. I also avoid using this on the days I use the peeling solution. If in doubt – always, always be as gentle as you can with your skin.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
My heart breaks when I run out of this bottle. I can never be without this product again. As much I adore my salicylic acid, I honestly think that this is my favourite product from The Ordinary. Back when I was on topical products for my acne I noticed that a lot of them contained zinc as a key ingredient. It makes so much sense that my skin adores this product. It’s my holy grail.
Nothing improves the clarity of my skin like this does. It regulates sebum production, boosts collagen and improves moisture retention. It’s also a great anti-inflammatory. Spots fade so quickly and don’t leave a scar. Blackheads are reduced. My pores look generally better. It’s perfect for those big, red, uncontrollable hormonal breakouts that my skin is so prone to now. I wouldn’t go a day without it.
I will sing the praises of this brand forever. I have so many more things I want to try from this wonderful, affordable company. Are any of these on your list?
